Thankfully, that time is over… Or is it? The smell of chalk, and the feel of the blackboard is still fresh in your mind. If you close your eyes, you can almost feel the eyes staring at your back as you labor to engage your brain and simplify the polynomial.

The StudyBed combines a very large desk with a full size bed and converts rapidly and easily in just a few seconds without the need to remove any item from the desk or the bed.

This is a free-standing, extremely powerful and designed for everyday use.
This is a neat solution to take advantage of limited living space and is perfect for rooms that need to be used both as a study and a bedroom.

A Straight Line

The Constrained Ball is one of those concepts I can easily see myself buying from a late night infomercial. I’m not saying it’s bad but the novel approach to a simple kind of problem is endearing. Fitted with a rubber gasket, the gadget helps you draw straight lines and indicates the length. OMG, is this the end of the ruler’s dominance?!? No but I quite like this concept. I’m a stickler for drawing straight lines. It’s either gotta be straight and perfect or it’s a no-go for me.

Bloq (Paul Johnson) is just one of more than 220 highly talented designer/Makers have been chosen to exhibit at Origin: The London Craft Fair, which will take place September 23-29th during this year’s London Design Festival.

Paul says of his work, “The furniture that I design and make uses clean lines and solid shapes to produce precisely detailed, minimalist and elegant forms that have a host of uses from functional to social.”

Got A Chain Fetish?

Designer Cho Hyung Suk has an affinity for bicycle chains – for their utilitarian function and seemingly beauty. The B-Chain Lamp spins the bike chain into a new kind of object, one that is rigid enough to pose a light into various positions. There’s something oddly anthropomorphic about this design – maybe because it halfway reminds me of the Pixar Lamp. Kök is a flat-pack chair inspired from a blue chair, a common staple in Mediterranean and Aegean culture. Simple to make and easy to assemble, no adhesives or complicated joints. From my understanding, the weight of someone sitting reinforces the tension at the joints making the bond even stronger.

A desk with a hood! Pull it up when you want to shut out the world and concentrate on the task as hand; pull it down when you are ready to mingle.

The Duplex Workspace is a one off prototype but Sophie is looking into developing the concept and is currently on the lookout for the funding and facilities to do so.

Digital Picture Now Comes Stamped

Why would you want a digital camera that doubles up as a rubber stamp? Why? The answer is simple….just for fun! As of now digicams offer a variety of options and modes (sepia, landscape etc.) to take pictures and edit them. Stampy Digital Camera gives you the option of creating a rubber-stamp version of your photograph, so that you stamp it onto any sheet of paper or surface. If you ask me, the best way to tweak this concept will be to have it stamp out pictures in multi colors instead of the single red. What do you think?
