Designed by Igor Lobanov from Urals State University of Architecture and Arts, Piccells is inflatable furniture provides two major uses. Working like a Japanese fan, Piccells pieces can be kept closed and worked as a room divider. In the closed state, it can also be used as a small coffee table. Once the piece is opened, each cover item fills with the air and ‘cells’ within inflate to make a piece of furniture that looks nearly like a giant sea anemone. Linking of the various cells can be changed manually to offer maximum convenience and variety. Designer proposes some biological and natural structures and textures such as Orange, Leaves, Butterfly, and Foam. Each structure represents an interconnected set of cells.

Sod T-Shirt Packaging by Prompt Design

Somchana Kangwarnjit of Prompt Design, a Thailand-based agency, has recently been awarded a Gold Pentaward for t-shirt packaging design called Here! Sod T-Shirt Packaging.

Here! Sod created a new line of t-shirts that are sold in simple yet distinctive packaging resembling food found in most supermarkets. Each shirt is custom packaged to resemble a piece of pork or icy beverage. Although the packaging is simply novel, it creates a fun and engaging shopping experience for the consumer.

The unique packaging created instant brand recognition amongst consumers which generated large volumes of word-of-mouth advertising.

Coffee Bench by BEYOND Standards

Poland-based BEYOND standards is a collaborative design and production studio led by Karolina Tylka (product designer) and Szymon Nawój (interior architect). They are dedicated to research material, technology and space relations, with a focus on searching for the coherent ideas in every product, space and process designed.

At 100% Design, they launched the Coffee Bench, a movable bench and table that is a smart use of space. Inspired by the need to have coffee in the garden with no space for the cup or newspaper, they designed a smart, rotating unit that can be easily adjusted based on your needs.

The bench can be made into varying lengths up to 3 meters and various materials, so it would be ideal for any outdoor space public or private. A soft version can be created for use indoors, too.

Unique Tea Ceremony Chair by Hiroki Takada

In Japan, Tea Ceremony has a lot of meanings and philosophies. It is a sacred ceremony. A lot of equipments are involved in this ceremony, including the tea whisk. Based on this tool, Hiroki Takada designed a unique chair.

Bamboo material is dominant in this design. This material provides natural, warm, and sacred feel, creating a harmonization to the environment.

The shape of the whisk is translated in the whole design. The bamboo materials are configured in a configuration to create the bottom part to the backrest of the chair. The configuration is very beautiful, creating a strong composition, but still flexible.

This exotic chair is suitable to be placed at patio, in front of the house, or in the garden, in a gasebo. Even it is not used in the traditional tea ceremony, this chair will give a pleasurable and relax feeling when it is used.

As the name indicates, the Table Chair is a hybrid entity, a multi-use piece of furniture. It will probably be used as a side table most of the time, but if a seat is needed, it turns into an extra chair. It’s a bit like in a London taxi: Usually you are the only passenger, sitting in the back seat. When you travel in a group, however, you really appreciate the small tip-up seat. Thomas Feichtner had a Black Box in mind when he designed this piece of furniture. It is a body which reveals nothing whatsoever about its inside or its function. If you open the black structural shell, you will be surprised by the bright white leather. In contrast to the plain closed rectangular solid the chair is composed of individual crystalline surfaces. The seating surface and the back are mirror-inverted. When you are seated, they provide a comfortable support for the buttocks and the back; when you fold the chair, they fit into each other in a space saving manner. As a safety precaution, a mechanic safety lock prevents unexpected collapsing. The chrome foot has the same base as the tabletop, reflecting the environment like a mirror and adapting to it. As a result, the monolithic base body has the effect of a self-supporting structure. The Table Chair is produced in series by Neue Wiener Werkstätte.

Eclipse is a media player that uses the photovoltaic cells on its backside to draw in solar power and sticks onto the window via a suction cup. As expected of any “good media player”, this one too features Bluetooth connectivity to steam in music from your MP3 player or catch weather updates, podcasts & radio. The speakers are built-in but the cutest aspect to the design is the compartment to hold your music device. It resembles the compartment used in cassette tape players from yester-years; the evident “eject” button et all!

Peeling With Three Variations

There is a reason why potato peelers come with brown handles; to blend in with the peels, so that you accidentally throw it out with the trash and replace it with a new one. With a sophisticated peeler like this Rotary Peeler, I doubt any such accidents will happen. Not only is it designed really simple, it’s got functionality multiplied 4 times! How? Well for starters it’s got three different blade options for peeling (one for potatoes, a serrated one for soft fruits and veggies and a third to cut uber-smooth juliennes), and a potato-eye weeder.

The whole peeler disassembles so that you can clean it up nice and easily. Maybe the many options of peeling and cutting juliennes will spark some creative cooking! What do you think?

The Constrained Ball is one of those concepts I can easily see myself buying from a late night infomercial. I’m not saying it’s bad but the novel approach to a simple kind of problem is endearing. Fitted with a rubber gasket, the gadget helps you draw straight lines and indicates the length. OMG, is this the end of the ruler’s dominance?!? No but I quite like this concept. I’m a stickler for drawing straight lines. It’s either gotta be straight and perfect or it’s a no-go for me.

The B-Chain Lamp spins the bike chain into a new kind of object, one that is rigid enough to pose a light into various positions. There’s something oddly anthropomorphic about this design – maybe because it halfway reminds me of the Pixar Lamp.

As of now digicams offer a variety of options and modes (sepia, landscape etc.) to take pictures and edit them. Stampy Digital Camera gives you the option of creating a rubber-stamp version of your photograph, so that you stamp it onto any sheet of paper or surface. If you ask me, the best way to tweak this concept will be to have it stamp out pictures in multi colors instead of the single red. What do you think?

The way we Indians do it is we hang our towel out in the sun, every day, right after our bath. That’s the routine mom taught us when we were young, but the nextgen is too lazy to follow that. The laundry cycles is usually set for a weekly change in towels at most homes, so a system like the “Towel Hanger” suits the situation. It dries, deodorizes and sanitizes the towel, when you hang it on the rail. As an added attraction, ambient lights switch on, creating a sweet environment when indulging in an aroma therapy soak!

As good as a solution for any part of the world, so let’s keep the towels indoors!

I read my book everywhere; on the bed, in a chair, on the pot (you do too!), on the park bench… Point is, once engrossed, you really don’t bother about your posture and when that nagging pain in the neck comes visiting, you really wonder why! The Bookmate is a functional cover that protects the book, but can also be converted into a stand by folding out a few indents; encouraging a better posture for you. Although awkward and bulky it’s got 2 things in its favor: illuminating strips that work as light source at night and edges that double-up as bookmarks.

The flipside is that you have to use it on a table; kinda reminds you of study-time in school. Say goodbye to curling up with a book!

rocking teapot brings the two together in a creative reworking. the rocking teapot is a small tray that has

a wire frame that holds a special teapot by two handles on its side. the teapot is suspended in the air and

a small circle in the tray holds the cup below. the user simply tilts the teapot towards the cup and the tea

pours right in. the design is perfectly functional helping users steadily pour a big pot of tea while

remaining quite whimsical.

'qlocktwo'

'qlocktwo', created by german product design studio biegert & funk, is a clock that tells

time in words. it has a quadratic matrix of letter. some of these characters glow in pure

white, thus, forming words that describe the time in five minute intervals. for more

accurate timing, users can look at the illuminated dots in the corner which show individual

minutes. with the help of its built in brightness sensor, the illuminating power of the letters

are automatically adjusted.

Lost in the dark! That’s usually what happens when you get home from a long day of working, skateboarding, drinking, whatever! It’s dark outside, you wanna get into your house, but by golly if it isn’t the most difficult thing in the world to get that key aligned with the key hole in order to insert and turn! Here’s the key to this problem. The “V Lock.” It’s got a v. You put the key in the v. You open the door. Perfect.

I think you’ll understand this concept in basically 0 seconds. It’s just that obvious. Props to designer Junjie Zhang for making the world a more intuitive place, one lock at a time.

人が自然に使用して、それが知らないうちに誰かの役に立てればいいという

発想から生れたのです。そして、それがおしゃれで機能的であればたくさんの

人が持ってくれるんじゃないかと…。

The idea came after looking at people using umbrellas naturally on the street. Wouldn’t it good that it is useful to someone? Would it become popular if there is an umbrella that is pretty and functional?

傘は日本で年間約1億3千万本が消費されています。持っていない人はいないでしょう。

でも、使い捨てのビニール傘ではもったいない。もっと丈夫でスタイリッシュでリーズナ

ブルな傘を作れば、たくさんの人が持ってくれるはずです。

In Japan, 130 million umbrellas are sold each year. There isn’t anyone that does not carry one. Plastic one which are meant for only one time use is a waste. If there is a sturdier, more stylish umbrella, many people should like to have one.

Furthermore, a certain percentage of the sales is contributed for green programs or for environmental protection.

この傘100本で木の苗1本を植樹します。

例えば、きちんと手入れされたヒノキ1本が50年間で吸収する二酸化炭素量はおよそ700kg-CO2と言われています。

つまり、あなたが購入されたこの傘1本が7kgの二酸化炭素排出削減に貢献するわけです。

これは自動車の42km走行、電車の389km走行分に相当します。

For every 100 umbrella sold, 1 tree is being planted.

For example, an oak tree absorbs 700kg of CO2 in 50 year’s time. This would mean that the umbrella you bought is contributing a 7kg reduction of CO2 emission. This is equivalent to the amount of CO2 emitted by a car travelling for 42km and a train travelling for 389km.

mirror man

this mirrored figure may look like a sculpture, but there is actually a man inside this extravagant costume
spotted in san francisco. the costume belongs to a street performer who wore it outside san fran’s griffith
observatory. the suit covers the wearer from head to toe with small fragments of mirror that provide just
enough movement for posing and walking around. large pieces of mirror are placed on the front and back
of the costume, while the head, hands and other detailed parts of the body have much smaller pieces.
while we aren’t completely sure who the costume was built, it is clear that it breaks into a few smaller
components and is most likely all attached through a single textile.
